Dear North Haven School Community:
I am writing to share a brief but important note regarding school bus safety on North Haven.
Our thoughts remain with the Maine families who have recently experienced the unimaginable loss of their children in tragic school bus related accidents. Families entrust schools with their most precious responsibility, the care and safety of their children, and that trust extends to every part of the school day, including transportation to and from school.
In light of these recent events in two Maine communities, we will be conducting a careful review of our current transportation safety policies and procedures. This review will help us identify any adjustments or improvements that may further strengthen our practices and ensure we are doing everything possible to protect our students.
In the meantime, we recently instituted a school bus safety patrol program, with four very brave and responsible students applying to be our inaugural patrols. We will be seeking ways to further reinforce and strengthen this program moving forward. Additionally, more than ever, we are extremely thankful that a longstanding partnership with the Town of North Haven resulted in the new school zone signs, which were installed last year.
Following the New Year, we will share any updates or changes with the community as part of a broader and ongoing commitment to student safety. Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and shared dedication to the well being of our students.
