We have another full week upon us, finally with enough sunshine to go around. It is indeed mid-March and we are thumping along.
Laura will be out this week, so we are down a critical member of our nerve center. Although some reminders went out, please run through the main office via phone or email (sjohnson@nhcshawks.org) any transportation needs, dismissals, bus notes, emergencies, changes of plans, etc.
In the coming weeks, students will be hard at work on their Knowledge Fair projects, which will be presented on the 9th of April. Talk to students about their topics, ask them questions, see what it's all about before the big show. And it is a big show because it's rare nowadays that kids of all ages, at the same time, get to showcase something of their own creation. Through this experience, and other exhibitions, we build a common language as a school and institution that can be shared and heard over a significant portion of a student's educational career.

| Soothsayer. Caesar!
Caesar. Ha! who calls? Casca. Bid every noise be still: peace yet again!
Caesar. Who is it in the press that calls on me? I hear a tongue, shriller than all the music, Cry 'Caesar!' Speak; Caesar is turn'd to hear. Soothsayer. Beware the ides of March. Caesar. What man is that? Brutus. A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March. Caesar. Set him before me; let me see his face. Cassius. Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Caesar. Caesar. What say'st thou to me now? Speak once again. Soothsayer. Beware the ides of March. Caesar. He is a dreamer; let us leave him: pass. |

Visiting Artist & Contradance
We were thrilled to welcome back visiting artist Chrissy Fowler, supported by Waterman’s Community Center Arts Integration grant, who worked with students across K–12 PE classes and led a lively community contradance at Calderwood Hall. For our Grade 7–8 students, the experience connected with their exploration of the Renaissance era, allowing them to engage with history through movement and dance. It was a joyful opportunity for students of all ages to experience music, rhythm, and community in a creative and active

| Middle School Humanities Milestone
Our seventh and eighth grade students recently wrapped up reading the entirety of Shakespeare’s The Tempest in its original Shakespearean language. This was no small accomplishment! Through discussion, acting out scenes, and close reading together, students explored big ideas like power, forgiveness, and leadership that still connect to our world today.
Alongside the play, the class has been strengthening nonfiction reading skills as they begin research for our Tudor-era Knowledge Fair. These past two weeks students logged over 1,100 minutes of reading outside of school as a class. We’re proud of their effort, curiosity, and willingness to take on challenging texts as they continue building strong reading and critical thinking skills. |
